Filament’s Automotive Blockchain Solution Wins NTT DATA Open Innovation Award

Proud to be one of 10 finalists selected to pitch at the NTT DATA Global Open Innovation Contest 9.0 in San Francisco.

Yesterday, Filament took part in the NTT DATA Open Innovative Pitch Day in San Francisco, presenting our automotive blockchain solution for autonomous electric vehicle charging alongside the nine other finalists that were selected to participate. We were honored to be the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Spotlight winner at the event.

The annual Open Innovation Pitch contest seeks proposals from companies for collaborative business initiatives that overcome specific technology and societal challenges. On behalf of our team, I presented our blockchain-based solution to solve the imminent need for autonomous vehicle charging transactions. As autonomous, driverless vehicle control technology is being tested in pilot programs around the world, the next generation of infrastructure must include automated charging between vehicles and charging stations. Our new solution illustrates the value of Filament’s IoT blockchain technology which is trusted and being used by corporations in the mobility industry today.

Filament’s video demonstrates a Roomba robot and docking station to show that by using Filament’s proven Blocklet™ technology within a blockchain-based solution, it is possible for electronic vehicles today, and autonomous vehicles in the future, to purchase, and receive energy and transact payment automatically without human intervention. At the same time the electronic grid is able to purchase battery capacity from idle electronic vehicles.

Filament is passionate about this project. Our machine to machine (M2M) technology is ideal for commercializing autonomous, driverless electric vehicle charging, and is in line with many of NTT DATA’s technology priorities and own sustainable development goals. We believe this transaction-based solution is part of the mobility future where payments are secure, automatic, and performed entirely by machines.

Congratulations to all of the finalists and to IoTium for taking the top spot in San Francisco, who will be going on to compete against other regional winners in Tokyo at the Grand Finale. Our support goes out to their team and to everyone contributing to innovation in mobility!
